Blue Ridge Angel Investor Network is a group of individual accredited angel investors. Its mission is to provide opportunities for members to obtain outstanding financial returns by investing in innovative companies with a presence in western North Carolina or a willingness to relocate or expand to the region, and that have intellectual property, job creation potential and realistic exit strategies.
BRAIN is the brainchild of the AdvantageWest Economic Development Group, which founded the group to be a catalyst for economic development in the North Carolina mountains. BRAIN will soon be an independent corporation.

Based in Hendersonville, NC, the company is the first early-stage local company to attract a big investment, having raised $2 million from Boston-based Sherbrooke Capital Partners and $600,000 from BRAIN in 2006.

Bill Ward, co-founder of BRAIN and a serial entrepreneur, is the chief executive officer of BUILDERadius, a thriving company that offers Web-based services to the building industry. Ward says he is a capitalist who is equally committed to making money and fostering young people's career opportunities in western North Carolina.
